Overview
예술과 기술의 융복합으로 새롭게 탄생한 매체예술 ‘풍화, 아세안의 빛’은 물, 빛, 풍등을 소재로 한 인터랙티브 미디어아트다.
염원의 상징인 ‘풍화(風火)’와 따스한 기운을 느끼게 하는 백열전구의 ‘묘화(妙火)’ 그리고 연결의 의미를 담고 있는 물.
‘풍화, 아세안의 빛’은 아세안의 염원인 ‘사람(People), 평화(Peace), 상생번영(Porsperity)’의 소망을 담고 있다.
‘풍화, 아세안의 빛’은 물, 빛, 바람이라는 원초적 자연의 세계를 작품의 근원으로 삼고 있다.
동양의 주역에서 풍(風)은 위를 의미하고 화(火)는 아래를 의미한다. 위로부터의 바람은 하늘의 섭리로 아무리 작은 곳이라도 미치지 않은 곳이 없다.
불은 태양과 진리의 의미로 밝음을 뜻한다. 여기서 위와 아래는 높고 낮음이 아니고 각자의 역할이다.
바람은 바람대로, 빛은 빛대로, 물은 물대로 제 역할의 충실함이다. 그 충실함으로 바람과 빛과 물은 혼연일체가 된다.
‘풍화, 아세안의 빛’ 염원 역시 ‘사람(People), 평화(Peace), 상생번영(Porsperity)’의 하나 됨이요 소망이다.
풍등을 띄워 소망을 빌었던 아시아의 정서는 마을 어귀에 천하대장군과 지하여장군을 세워 마을의 평화와 안녕을 바랐던 우리네 제의적 기능과도 맞닿아 있다.
아시아인들의 화합과 평화의 간절한 기원은 일렁이는 물위로 오르내리는 풍등에 고스란히 투영된다.
작품을 기획한 작가 사일로 랩(SILO Lab)은 디지털이 갖고 있는 특유의 차가움을 최대한 따뜻하게 풀어내고자 했다.
고도화된 기술을 사용하되, 기술이 드러나지 않고 공간과 완벽하게 일치하도록 했다.
물 효과를 내기 위해서 물 영상을 만들기 보다는 진짜 물을 가져오는 것이 더 맞다고 생각한다.
따스한 빛을 표현하기 위해서는 어떤 방법으로 표현 할 것인가에 대한 고민이 많다.
그들이 추구하는 예술세계는 기술을 접목하지만 기술이 드러나지 않는 작품이 되는 것이다.
가장 최신의 디지털 기술을 사용하면서도 아날로그적 감성을 향유하는 것이 그들이 고집하는 작품세계다.
The new media art ‘Breezing Ember, Light of ASEAN’, born from the convergence of art and technology,
is an interactive media art using water, light, and wind lanterns as its materials. ‘Breezing Ember’, a symbol of desire,
‘Mysterious Fire’, a warm-hearted incandescent light bulb, and water, which contains the meaning of connection.
‘Breezing Ember, Light of ASEAN’ contains the wishes of ASEAN for ‘People, Peace, and Prosperity.’
The original natural world of water, light, and wind is the source of the work.
In the Eastern Book of Changes, wind (風) means up, and fire (火) means down.
The wind from above reaches no matter how small the place is, as the providence of heaven.
Fire means brightness, as the sun and truth. Here, up and down are not high and low, but each has its own role.
The wind, light, and water are faithful to their own roles. Through this faithfulness, wind, light, and water become one.
The wish for ‘Breezing Ember, the Light of ASEAN’ is also the unity and hope of ‘People, Peace, and Prosperity.’
The Asian sentiment of floating lanterns to make wishes is also in line with our ritual function of erecting the Great General of
the World and the General of the Earth at the entrance to the village and praying for peace and well-being in the village.
The earnest wish for harmony and peace among Asians is reflected in the lanterns rising and falling on the rippling water.
The artist who planned the work, SILO Lab, wanted to warmly express the unique coldness of digital technology
as much as possible. It used advanced technology, but the technology was not revealed and was perfectly aligned with
the space. Rather than making a video of water to create a water effect, I think it would be better to bring in real water.
I think a lot about how to express warm light. The art world they pursue is a work that incorporates technology
but does not reveal the technology. Their work world is one that uses the latest digital technology
while enjoying an analog sensibility.
