<파동>은 깊이 파동 치는 물결과 빛의 반영을 감상하는 미디어 아트(Me- dia Art) 작품이다. 잔잔한 수조 위로 일렁이는 파문은 우리의 마 음속에서 퍼져가는 감정처럼 모양을 다양하게 바꿔가며 부서지고 사라진다. 물과 빛의 움직임 속에서 고요한 내면에 잠겨 본다. 

수면은 순환하는 수직적 공간 중 하늘과 심해 사이에 있다. 거울 같은 수면에 퍼지는 하나의 파문은 점차 퍼져나가며 웅덩이 전체를 일렁이게 한다. 점점 잦아지는 파문은 서로 간섭하며 점점 새로운 무늬를 만들어낸다. 서로 에너지를 주고받으며 예측할 수 없는 형태로 퍼져가는 무늬들은 오랜 기다림 후 다시 균형을 되찾는다. 파동은 이런 파장의 형태를 감정에 빗대어 표현하고자 한다. 마음속 깊은 곳에서 떠오르는 감정들은 생각 속에서 작은 파문이 되어 점점 크게 번져간다. 또 다른 감정 하나가 새로운 파문을 만들면 무늬가 서로 얽히며 예측할 수 없는 생각들을 만들어낸다. 이렇게 여기저기로 퍼지는 생각들은 생각지도 못했던 곳까지 나아갈 것이다. 한동안 꼬리를 물던 생각들은 감정들이 소모되면 천천히 균형을 되찾으면서 안정을 취할 것이다. 

거울 같은 수면이 빛을 잔잔히 반사한다. 깊이를 가늠할 수 없을 만큼 깨끗하고 매끄럽다. 그러다 저 아래 깊은 곳에서 작은 울림이 올라온다. 처음엔 하나, 그다음엔 둘... 여러 가지 파동이 모이면서 중첩된 파동을 만든다. 서로의 결이 부딪치며 만든 물결, 벽에 반사되어 돌아온 에너지가 다시 물결을 만든다. 이러한 파동을 머리 위의 빛이 두드러지게 보여 준다. 수면 아래에서 올라와 반쯤 반사된 빛이 파동을 보여준다. 파동의 실체가 더 깊이 대비를 이루며 나에게 다가온다. 그러다 수면 위에서 다가온 빛이 반사된 파동을 보여 준다. 직접적인 실체는 내 몸 아래서 움직이며 내 눈엔 반사된 파동이 허상인 듯 실체인 듯 일렁인다. 소통하던 파동은 고갈되고 일렁임은 사그라지며 수면은 아무것도 없는 상태이자 시작이었던 거울과 같은 모습으로 회귀한다.

<Ripples> is a media art work that appreciates the reflection of deep waves and light. The ripples that move over the calm water tank break and disappear, changing their shapes in various ways, just like emotions spreading in our hearts. The viewer is immersed in the quiet inner world in the movement of water and light.

The water’s surface is located between the sky and the deep sea among the vertical spaces that are circulated. A ripple that spreads across the mirror-like surface of the water gradually spreads out and shakes the entire pool. The increasingly frequent ripples interfere with each other and gradually create new patterns. The patterns created by exchanging energy in unpredictable shapes regain their balance after a long wait. Waves are expressed by comparing the shape of these waves to emotions. Emotions that arise from the depths of one’s heart become small ripples in one’s thoughts and spread gradually. When another emotion creates a new ripple, patterns intertwine and unpredictable thoughts arise. Thoughts that spread here and there will go in unexpected directions. Thoughts that have been tailing for a while will slowly regain their balance and settle down as emotions are consumed.

The mirror-like surface gently reflects the light. It is so clean and smooth that one cannot fathom its depth. Then, a small echo rises from deep below. First one, then two... Several waves come together to create overlapping waves. Waves created by colliding grains, and the energy reflected from the wall creates waves again. These waves accentuate the light above one’s head. The half-reflected light that rises from the bottom of the water shows the wave. The reality of the wave approaches the viewer with a deeper contrast. Then, the light approaching on the surface of the water shows the reflected waves. The direct entity moves under one’s body, and the reflected waves sway in one’s eyes as if it was virtual or real. The waves that communicated are exhausted, the shimmering disappears, and the water surface returns to a state of nothingness regaining a mirror-like appearance that was the beginning.
